The “Group Home” Program

Keenan House is a state-contracted Community Corrections Facility (CCF) providing residential Drug and Alcohol (D&A) treatment and super-vision services for the PA Dept. of Corrections (DOC). The Group Home program is available to eligible State Correctional Institute (SCI) inmates who have received pre-release status.

Keenan House combines the supervision and case management services of a Community Correction Center with an intensive therapeutic community (D&A / criminal behavior treatment center).  All pre-release individuals entering Keenan House are required to undergo a comprehensive D&A/criminal behavior assessment. Individuals determined to be in need of treatment are enrolled directly into the comprehensive treatment program. Completion of this clinically driven, variable-length program is required before advancement to Group Home status. Individuals not requiring treatment (by assessment) are placed directly into the Group Home program.

Group Home status clients are required to obtain legal employment except when prohibited by a verifiable disability. While employed, concurrent General Education Diploma (GED), English as a Second Language (ESL) and/or Adult Basic Education (ABE) instruction and outpatient counseling may be required. All Group Home clients are provided with a structured living environment, vocational or educational assistance, job readiness training and individual case management services.

When all DOC and Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole requirements are met, the client is paroled directly to a supportive and accountable living environment within the community.

Cost: The PA DOC pays for each person in accordance with a contractual agreement.  The cost includes room, board and all therapeutic activities. Clients who secure legal employment are expected to pay 15% of their income toward room and board.
